The quake's epicenter was located 21 kilometers from Melonguane, North Sulawesi, with coordinates 3.81°N latitude and 126.68°E longitude, and occurred at a depth of 21 kilometers below the sea surface.
According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake does not have the potential to trigger a tsunami. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake.
