inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. Riau Regional Police Drug Criminal Investigation Directorate has successfully stopped MY and MD who smuggled 30 kilograms of meth to Pekanbaru City.
The Director of the Drug Criminal Investigation Directorate, Senior Superintendent Manang Soebeti says that the two suspects were arrested at a hotel in Pekanbaru City after his intel heard about the drug smuggling.
“Our team found a meth weighing 30 kilogram in a car parked at the hotel. After a brief talk with the hotel receptionist, we got the information of the car owner and immediately arrested them,” explains Manang on Tuesday (11/26/2024).
According to police investigation, MY and MD were ordered by a drug dealer in Malaysia with the initials of I. They were ordered to distribute the meth to Pekanbaru.
Both suspects are now facing severe punishment. They are being charged with Article 114 Paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 112 Paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 Paragraph (1) of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics. The punishments that await them are the death penalty, life imprisonment, or imprisonment with a minimum sentence of six years and a maximum of 20 years.
Meanwhile, Riau Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Mohammad Iqbal firmly delivered a stern warning to anyone involved in drug trafficking in the Riau region.
"This is a stern warning to all drug dealers to not smuggle your illicit items to Riau. We will synergize with various parties to close every loophole in drug trafficking," he said.
He also emphasized that firm action without compromise will be taken against perpetrators who endanger the community or officers.
