Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police recorded 2,597 cybercrime reports between January and August 2025, with total losses estimated at Rp24.3 billion, according to Metro Jaya Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Budi Hermanto on Saturday (1/1/2025).

“The most common types of online fraud are scams, phishing, and illegal online loans,” he said, as reported by antaranews.com.

He noted that cases surged between May and July, exceeding 800 reports. Offenses ranged from fake part-time job offers and cryptocurrency investment fraud (pig butchering scams) to online sexual extortion (sextortion). Investigations revealed transnational networks linking Indonesia, Malaysia, and Cambodia, where local nominees were used to open bank and crypto accounts for laundering stolen funds.

Most scams used WhatsApp, followed by Instagram, Facebook, and e-commerce platforms. The police warned of rising use of AI-based deepfakes and malware.

To combat these crimes, Polda Metro Jaya Police launched the “Siber Ungkap – Anti Scam Center” at metrojaya.id, integrating law enforcement, banks, and regulators for rapid fraud response and account blocking.
