Inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh. Aceh Police Regional Chief Inspector General Marzuki Ali Basyah said authorities have not determined why a former Mobile Brigade (Brimob) officer joined the Russian military, confirming the individual is no longer part of the Indonesian National Police (INP).
The case surfaced after reports showed the ex-officer had traveled abroad late last year.
“I do not know his motive for joining the Russian military because I have not met or questioned him directly,” Chief Marzuki told reporters on Saturday (17/1/2026)..
The former officer, identified as Second Brigadier Muhammad Rio, had been dismissed following ethics hearings over domestic violence and desertion, according to antaranews.com. Police records show he left Indonesia for Russia via China on 19 December 2025, after becoming physically inactive from duty.
Aceh Police stressed the case involves a civilian, not an active officer, and is no longer under internal police authority. Investigations are limited to administrative confirmation and coordination with relevant agencies.
