Inp.polri.go.id - Lumajang. Mount Semeru in the border of Lumajang and Malang, East Java, erupted again, with an ash column reaching 800 meters above its peak at 10.07 pm on Monday night (6/5/2024).
According to Ghufron Alwi, an officer at the Mount Semeru Observation Post, the eruption was observed with a column of ash measuring approximately 800 meters above the summit, with gray-colored ash moving thickly towards the east.
The eruption was recorded on seismographs with a maximum amplitude of 22 mm and a duration of 162 seconds, according to antaranews.com.
The volcano, which stands at 3,676 meters above sea level, erupted on Monday morning at 5.43 am, with an observed ash column reaching approximately 700 meters above the summit.
Mount Semeru remains at Alert Level III, with recommendations from the Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Agency (PVMBG) advising residents not to engage in any activities within the southeastern sector along Besuk Kobokan, up to 13 km from the summit.
