Inp.polri.go.id - Lumajang. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted on Wednesday afternoon (19//11/2025), sending a massive pyroclastic flow of hot gas and ash racing 7 kilometers down its southeastern flank.
The 3,676-meter volcano also emitted a thick grey ash column rising about 2,000 meters above its summit.
“Hot-cloud eruptions are occurring, the travel distance has reached 7 km from the peak, and the eruption is still ongoing at the time of reporting,” said Mukdas Sofian, an officer at the Semeru Observation Post, in a written update cited by antaranews.com.
Seismic records showed a maximum amplitude of 40 mm with an eruption duration of around 16 minutes and 40 seconds. Authorities have maintained Semeru at Alert Level II and warned residents to avoid all activities within the southeastern sector and along the Besuk Kobokan drainage up to 8 km from the crater.
Officials warned that pyroclastic flows, lava avalanches, and volcanic mud flow may extend up to 13 km through rivers and steep valleys, urging residents to stay at least 2.5 km away from
