Inp.polri.go.id - Cirebon. The Cirebon Sub-regional Police in West Java are investigating reports of a bright fireball and loud explosion on Sunday night, which locals believe was caused by a meteor fall.
Authorities have deployed officers to multiple sites after social media posts and community reports sparked concern.
“After receiving various reports from residents and online platforms, we immediately ordered our units to conduct field checks across several areas,” said Cirebon Police Chief Senior Superintendent Sumarni on Monday (6/10/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Police have examined potential impact zones from Ciperna to eastern Cirebon, including arterial and toll roads, but have so far found no signs of debris or ground impact. The force is working with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to ensure public safety and verify the incident.
Meanwhile, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) confirmed no thunderstorms or seismic activity during the event. National Research Agency (BRIN) astronomy professor Thomas Djamaluddin suggested the object likely fell into the Java Sea after crossing Cirebon’s airspace.
