Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Acknowledging that hoax news is spreading wildly in social media during political year, the Indonesian National Police (INP) Public Relations Division aims to further strengthen the monitoring on social media as part of early mitigation.
The Head of Public Information Bureau of INP Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko states that INP Public Relations saw that improving the awareness of public against the dangers of hoax news in internet is the first initial step that has to be taken in combating misinformation.
In preventing hoax news from freely roamed the internet, Trunoyudo also assessed that inter-agency coordination also bears the same importance.
“And lastly is by communicating with the Social Media Platform where the Communication and Information Ministry would be the leading sector,” says Trunoyudo during his remarks on Association of Indonesian Journalists (PWI) Hoax Task Force Launch Kick Off on Tuesday (1/8/2024).
INP, says Trunoyudo, will also improve their efforts in blocking hazardous and hoax contents as the Bhayangkara Corps would also be more responsive in acknowledging various threat potentials. In addition, the approach towards institutions and law also plays pivotal role in upholding the law.
On the other hand, he also acknowledges that all of those initiatives also need to walk side-by-side with anti-hoax and hate speech communities and revitalizing traditional institutions.
In his closing remarks, Trunoyudo reveals that so far issues that are often misleadingly informed by irresponsible individuals are those related to public policies, police/military issues, racism and intolerance, as well as hoax news. Therefore, Trunoyudo urges public to be wiser and more selective in consuming information from the internet.
