Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Newly appointed Minister of  Youth and Sports Erick Thohir said his future as Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) will depend on FIFA’s decision.

President Prabowo Subianto officially swore in him on Wednesday (17/9/2025), while he remains PSSI chairman after being elected in February 2023. 

“That process is in FIFA’s hands. They will decide,” Minister Erick said, as.reported by antaranews.com

FIFA rules do not prohibit a government minister from leading a football federation, provided the election is democratic and independent. Minister Erick previously held the post of Minister  of State-Owned Enterprises while also serving as PSSI chairman.

FIFA regulations emphasize that federation leaders must be elected through member congresses, free from government interference, and must not be involved in corruption, conflicts of interest, or match-fixing. Minister Erick said he will await FIFA’s official correspondence on his dual role.

He replaced Dito Ariotedjo as the youth and sports minister, whose predecessor Zainudin Amali resigned after being elected PSSI deputy chairman.
