Inp.polri.go.id – Papua. The Government of New Zealand collaborates with the Indonesian Military Force (TNI) and Indonesian National Police (INP) to rescue the Susi Air Pilot, Captain Philip Mark Merthens. It has been a year since the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) held hostage the pilot in Nduga Regency, Papua Mountains Province.
The New Zealand Police Attache, Paul Laurence Borell, has met with the security officials in Mimika to review the rescue effort of Captain Philip. The day before, he went to Papua Regional Police to discuss the same topic in rescuing their citizens.
Regarding the topics, Papua Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri says that the New Zealand Government has completely entrusted TNI-INP in rescuing Captain Philip.
“I have talked and discussed about rescuing the Susi Air Pilot with the New Zealand Ambassador. In general, they trust our security force to rescue their citizens,” said Mathius.
Furthermore, Mathius also states that he has told the ambassador that Indonesia does not need the third party in rescuing the pilot.
“Me and the Cenderawasih Regional Commander have said that we did not need the help from the third party who will take the advantage in further issuing Papua Independence. The government will do its best to rescue the pilot,” said Mathius.
