Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Papua Regional Police has announced their intention to investigate the shooting incident involving Michelle Kurisi Ndoga in Kimbim, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Mountains, on Tuesday (8/29/23). The shooting was carried out by the West Papua National Liberation Army-Free Papua Movement (TNPB-OPM), according to a press release issued by the group. "The murder took place after she was interrogated regarding her purpose on her journey to Kwijawagi, where she intended to gather data about war refugees in the Nduga community," stated Police Senior Superintendent Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, the Head of Public Relations of Papua Regional Police, in a written statement on Wednesday (8/30/23). He said that their team is currently conducting further investigation and inquiry to verify whether the victim was an intelligence officer, stating, "Our investigative team is leaving no stone unturned in the pursuit of uncovering the truth behind this information." While addressing the public, he underscored the importance of refraining from making speculative conclusions and encouraged patience in awaiting the official investigation results. He advised the public to steer clear of information propagated by TNPB that might provoke biases or misperceptions. Additionally, he reaffirmed that upholding law enforcement and ensuring security remain top priorities for the Papua Regional Police. He further assured that any violation of the law will be met with resolute action in alignment with established regulations.
