inp.polri.go.id - East Java. The Food Task Force Team from the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimsus) of Sidoarjo Sub-regional Police, conducted a surprise inspection at the Larangan Traditional Market in Sidoarjo on July 25, 2025. The purpose was to anticipate the circulation of adulterated rice in Sidoarjo.

The team obtained samples of several premium rice products and brands, including the SPG brand. Subsequently, an independent inspection at the Surabaya State Logistics Agency (Bulog) office determined that the quality of the rice sold did not meet standard or premium quality standards.

Based on these findings, on July 29, 2025, the Food Task Force Team from the Sidoarjo Sub-regional Police visited the production site of premium rice owned by CV. SP Group, under the SPG brand, in Keper Village, Krembung District, Sidoarjo Regency, owned by Mr. MLH.

East Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Nanang Avianto stated in a press conference on Monday (August 4, 2025) that the business owner failed to provide proof of laboratory testing of the premium rice produced by his company.

The owner of CV SPG lacks the competence or knowledge to produce premium rice. The operational machinery has never undergone a production feasibility test from the authorities. The packaging of premium rice under the SPG brand bears the SNI mark and Halal logo, despite not having such certifications.

"Based on this, MLH and the evidence were secured at the Sidoarjo Sub-regional Police HQ for further investigation. We also involved expert witnesses from the National Standardization Agency, consumer protection experts from the East Java Department of Industry and Trade, and conducted laboratory tests related to premium rice quality standards by sampling SPG rice," said Nanang Avianto.

Furthermore, Nanang explained the results of the SPG brand of adulterated rice, stating that laboratory tests had been conducted, with the results showing that the composition of the rice did not meet quality standards.

"Rice is a staple food for the people, so there should be no manipulation of rice quality," he stressed.

The East Java Regional Police also appealed to all food businesses to refrain from engaging in quality manipulation practices and to ensure that all production processes comply with national quality standards and applicable legal provisions.
