inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Metro Jaya Regional Police confirmed that the incident of abuse against a child with the initials RML (5) has been handled by the East Jakarta Sub-regional Police. The violence that went viral on social media, showed the victim was bruised and bleeding after being abused by his parents.

Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Ade Ary Syam explained that the victim's neighbor found RML already bruised and bleeding while crying. Then, the victim's neighbor called the local head and reported the incident to the police.

"The abusers are the victim's parents, biological mother and stepfather," explained Ade in an official statement on Tuesday (10/29/2024).

Ade adds that police investigators have arrested the perpetrators at their home in the Pasar Rebo area, East Jakarta. During the investigation, it was discovered that the child was initially picked up by the perpetrator, who was his own biological mother, to Jakarta in June 2024.

The victim herself was left in Kupang by his biological mother since he was a baby and did not recognize her when she was picked up by his mother to Jakarta. Upon arriving in Jakarta, RML stayed with his mother and stepfather, Marten Luther.

“According to the parents, RML told his neighbors that he was rarely fed by his parents,” says Ade.

Based on the victim's confession, he was first beaten by his parents in June 2024. The abuse was carried out by the victim's biological mother and stepfather.

"They beat the kid together using broomsticks and belts. So when one of them is beating the kid, the other would later join," he said.

Currently, he said, the victim's mother named Yisri Tneh and Marten Luther Lopo have been detained. The suspects were then charged with Article 76c Jo 80 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 35 of 2014 and/or Article 170 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 351 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 44 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 24 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Physical Violence in the Household.
