inp.polri.go.id - Yogyakarta. The General Criminal Investigation Directorate of Yogyakarta Regional Police carried out a psychological test on MR (17), the teenager who burned down a train car parked at Tugu Station.
The Director of the General Criminal Investigation Unit, Senior Superintendent Endriadi considered it necessary to conduct an examination to deepen MR's psychological condition before his party named him a suspect.
"Regarding the person concerned, we have also requested a psychiatric examination. That is still in process," he said on Friday (3/14/2025).
On Wednesday (3/12/2025) morning, MR allegedly sneaked into the train carriage through the side door. After entering, he then burned a chair made of foam using cardboard that had been lit on fire. As a result, two executive train carriages and one premium train carriage were burned down.
He further explained that MR is a Jakarta resident who is known to have sensory disabilities or is mute.
MR is suspected of committing the act because of a grudge against PT KAI. Based on the results of the examination which was also assisted by a sign language expert, the perpetrator admitted that he was often dropped off by officers at the next station because he did not have a travel ticket.
"The perpetrator's motive was to hold a grudge against KAI officers because he was often dropped off the train because he did not have a ticket," he explained.
Previously, MR was arrested by the police in the Malioboro area of Yogyakarta City some time after the fire incident of three train carriages.
The alleged perpetrator narrowed down to MR after a series of crime scene investigations, CCTV footage analysis, and investigations involving the Central Java Forensic Laboratory (Labfor) and the Inafis Team.
In handling this case, the police have confiscated a number of pieces of evidence, including the clothes worn by the perpetrator, a black bag, brown cardboard, and two red and blue lighters.
The police charged MR with Article 180 in conjunction with Article 197 of Law Number 23 of 2007 concerning Railways, as well as Articles 187, 188, and 406 of the Criminal Code with a penalty of 12 years in prison.
