inp.polri.go.id - Medan. The North Sumatra Regional Police are hunting down the smugglers of nine kilograms of crystal methamphetamine in the Tanjungbalai City area, North Sumatra.
"We are still developing the case to uncover the identities of other perpetrators, especially S, who is the link to the overseas network," said the Director of Drug Investigation of the North Sumatra Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Jean Calvijn Simanjuntak in Medan, Friday (5/30/2025)..
Jean Calvijn suspects that the drug dealers of this case are part of an international narcotics syndicate.
He said the disclosure of the distribution of nine kilograms of crystal methamphetamine began with the arrest of two men, in two different locations, who are strongly suspected of being couriers in Tanjung Balai City.
The arrest of a man with the initials MR (51) was on D.I. Panjaitan street, Sei Tualang Raso District, Tanjungbalai City, Friday (5/23) where the police found one large drug package weighing 1,000 grams and two medium packages containing 1,000 grams of crystal methamphetamine.
To the police, MR admitted that the evidence was obtained from someone with the initials S (still on the run) who ordered him to pick up crystal methamphetamine from Malaysian waters on May 20, 2025. The crystal methamphetamine was transported using a dompeng-powered boat.
Following the arrest on MR, police arrested AR (35), MR's younger sibling, in the Titi Harkat bridge area, Teluk Nibung District, Tanjungbalai City.
"Officers found 7,000 grams of crystal methamphetamine stored in the boat," said Jean Celvijn.
The two perpetrators were charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) and/or Article 112 paragraph (2) of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, with the threat of the death penalty or life imprisonment.
"The North Sumatra Police will continue to take firm action against narcotics perpetrators. We invite all levels of society to participate in helping eradicate drugs for the future of the nation's generation," he said.
