inp.polri.go.id - Mimika. Police questioned several witnesses in the murder of an Indonesian National Military (TNI) soldier in Bhintuka SP13, Kuala Kencana District, on Sunday (7/13/2025).

"Yesterday, we conducted a crime scene investigation, accompanied by TNI personnel and members of the Military Police . We also coordinated with the TNI to search for the perpetrator, and are still coordinating with the Battalion. We have also questioned several witnesses in our investigation process," said Mimika Sub-regional Police Chief, Superintendent Billyandha Hildiario Budiman, as reported by papua60detik on Monday (7/14/2025).

In addition to the crime scene investigation, police and TNI conducted patrols and searches at several locations.

Billyandha stated that the investigation into the perpetrators of the murder is ongoing. Regarding circulating information claiming responsibility for the TPNPB-OPM, he said it should not be taken for granted.

"Regarding the information circulating of TPNPB-OPM claiming to be the perpetrator, we could not confirm it yet as it could be a hoax. We are still investigating this case. Was it purely a criminal act? Was it carried out by members of the Free Papua Movement (OPM)? We still do not know," he explained.

He also assured that Mimika Regency remains safe and conducive. He asked residents not to be anxious or worried.

Previously, OPM spokesperson Sebby Sambom, in a press release, stated that the killing was carried out by TPNPB troops from Kodap XVIII Puncak Ilaga. He said it was on the orders of Goliat Tabuni.
