inp.polri.go.id - Semarang. The Central Java Regional Police Directorate of Special Crimes have successfully uncovered a large-scale illegal sugar trafficking operation in the Banyumas region.
The illegal product is known to have been widely distributed in several areas of the province, including East Java.
The Director of Special Crimes at the Central Java Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Arif Budiman stated that the counterfeiting was carried out by a perpetrator identified as MS (52), a resident of Cilongok, Banyumas, who owns the production warehouse. This was revealed during a case investigation at his office.
Arif explained that the perpetrator's method involved mixing refined sugar with factory-rejected white crystal sugar.
He then repackaged the product in used sacks of a specific brand for distribution to various regions in Central Java and East Java.
"Early last July, we sealed MS's adulterated sugar production warehouse in Banyumas. They had been operating since 2018 with a production capacity of 300 to 500 tons per month and a turnover of up to IDR 150 million per month," he said, as reported by radioidola, Thursday (7/10/2025).
He also explained that this practice harms both legitimate producers and consumers.
The products sold do not meet standards and are unfit for consumption, and can undermine public trust in legal products circulating in the market.
"The evidence we secured was more than 1,442 sacks of adulterated sugar, with a total weight of approximately 72 tons. We also confiscated three mixers, two sack sewing machines, and two digital scales," he explained.
