Police Raids Clandestine Laboratory in Bekasi, Estimated to Save 157,700 Lives

inp.polri.go.id - West Jakarta. The West Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police Drug Criminal Investigation Unit successfully dismantled a clandestine laboratory for making synthetic tobacco in one of the luxury housing clusters in the Bekasi area of ​​West Java.

In the case uncovering, police arrested a suspect, OS (29), while there are two other suspects with the initials of VG and BI, who are listed in the Wanted List.

Chief of West Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Syahduddi reveals that the suspect rented the house to be used as the clandestine lab for synthetic tobacco.

“During our raid, the suspect was cooking synthetic tobacco. We also found the tools and dangerous chemicals used for producing the drugs," said Syahduddi in a press conference on Tuesday (9/24/2024).

The case was first uncovered when the police received the information regarding the drug transaction in Kalideres, West Jakarta.

Further investigation then carried out to uncover the drug flow in the luxury housing clusters in Bekasi.

Investigators then conducted surveillance and managed to capture OS while cooking the synthetic tobacco.

From the search, police found a fully equipped laboratory on the second floor of the house, which was used to produce synthetic tobacco.

The suspect OS admitted that he worked on the orders of VG, who is in the Wanted List. OS was promised a payment of IDR 50 million to produce synthetic tobacco, but he only got IDR 22.5 million in payment.

With this disclosure, the police managed to save around 157,500 lives from the dangers of narcotics.

For his actions, suspect OS was charged with Article 112 paragraph (1) and Article 129 letter a of Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics with a sentence of 4 years in prison.

The police also continue to pursue VG and BI who are still at large.
