inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Chairman of the General Elections Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) Rahmat Bagja said that issues of ethnicity, religion, race and inter-group (SARA) are still likely to occur and emerge in the 2024 Regional Head Elections.
He revealed that the concerning issue pushed Bawaslu to discuss national security strategies with Wantannas to anticipate conflict.
According to the Bawaslu Chairman, if conflict occurs and continues to heat up, it has the potential to divide Indonesian society.
In addition, the spread of sensitive issues related to SARA is relatively easy with the help of social media.
"The use of SARA in social media has a negative impact to the point of disunity for regions in Indonesia, especially vulnerable areas such as Papua and Madura," said Rahmat.
In addition to the SARA issue, the distance between the general election and the regional election needs to be paid attention to. Because, ideally the stages of organizing the general election and regional election are not too close, so that the preparation can also be more optimal.
"In addition to crucial issues, everyone needs to pay attention to the distance factor for holding general elections and regional elections, it should be more than one year, maybe two years, to be more effective," explained Rahmat.
