Police Thwart the Departure of Six Illegal PMIs to Malaysia

Inp.polri.go.id – Lampung. Lampung Regional Police have rescued six women from being trafficked abroad illegally. They were swayed by the high income in working as house maid in Malaysia. The six women are TS (33), A (33), FA (39), AW (39), R (39), and NY (35). “There are six women who are the illegal Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) that have been rescued,” says Lampung Regional Police PR Chief, Grand Commissioner Umi Fadilah Astutik on Sunday (11/12/2023). The case disclosure stemmed from a person who was suspicious with the activity at a house in Vilage V, Terbanggi Besar, Central Lampung. It was later found out that the house was a temporary shelter for the illegal migrants before being sent abroad. “After receiving the report, personnel of Renakta 4 of General Criminal Investigation Sub-directorate was deployed to the location and able to rescue six illegal PMIs,” she adds. Other than securing the victims, police have also designated a person as suspect, with the initial of IPS (39). In committing the crime, she lured the victims with high income as maid in Malaysia with a payment of 1,500 Ringgit or IDR 5 million. “Victims are asked to fill the documents and they will be departed from Central Lampung to Kampung Rambutan, East Jakarta. From there, they would take a taxi to go to International Airport Soekarno Hatta and then flew to Malaysia,” she explains. Suspect will be charged with Article 69 in conjunction with 81 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 18 of 2017 concerning Protection of PMI with a penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of IDR 15 billion or Article 2 Paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the eradication of criminal acts of human trafficking with a minimum penalty of 3 years maximum 15 years and a minimum fine of IDR 120 million.
