Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo revealed that the United States President Joe Biden did not respond to Indonesia's plea for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The disclosure came following a meeting between the two leaders at the White House on November 13, ahead of their participation in the APEC Summit in San Francisco.
"In both instances, I directly conveyed the urgency of halting the atrocities in Gaza and the immediate implementation of a ceasefire," stated President Jokowi after dispatching humanitarian aid for Palestine at the Halim Perdanakusuma, Jakarta, on Monday (20/11/23).
In his role as one of the special envoys of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for Palestinian peace, President Jokowi emphasized Indonesia's call for an immediate end to the war and the facilitation of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
Despite the lack of a direct response from President Biden, President Jokowi remains optimistic, asserting that the U.S. government should consider Indonesia's plea in its policy on the Palestinian issue.
"It can still be considered. I think from what we delivered, I make sure it is noted (by the US government)," he stated.
As of now, over 12,000 Palestinians, including 8,300 women and children, have lost their lives, and more than 30,000 others have been injured since the conflict started on October 7.
