Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko Widodo, widely known as Jokowi, has challenged Indonesia's athletes competing in the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, to secure a place within the top 10 in the final standings.
"I remember during the Asian Games in Jakarta, we were ranked fourth. Although the Minister of Youth and Sports has calculated a ranking of around 12, it seems quite distant to me," he said while addressing the issue on Tuesday (19/9/2023)
President Jokowi acknowledged the difficulty of the task, particularly given the contrast with Indonesia's previous hosting of the Asian Games in 2018.
"I'm not looking at 12th place; I'm aiming for the top 10. I understand the difference between hosting and not hosting," he emphasized.
President Jokowi's ambitious target comes as 413 athletes represent Indonesia in a variety of sports, including aquatics, fencing, athletics, weightlifting, basketball, badminton, bridge, chess, e-sports, wrestling, jujitsu, karate, kurash, shooting, cycling, sport cycling, and dragon boat racing.
