President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo reaffirmed the Indonesian government's unwavering commitment to protecting its citizens, including the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza amidst the ongoing conflict. Speaking via live video from Washington DC on Sunday (12/11/23), he emphasized the immediate need for a Gaza ceasefire, the acceleration of humanitarian aid, initiation of peace talks, and safeguarding public facilities.
Amid persistent attacks on Indonesian hospitals in Palestine by Israel, President Jokowi emphasized the paramount importance of upholding international humanitarian law. This message was conveyed during the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit and bilateral meetings on the summit's sidelines in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday (12/11).
Stressing accountability, President Jokowi declared, "Israel must be held accountable for the atrocities committed."
He disclosed that the OIC summit yielded a resolution with a strong message, intending to convey it to U.S. President Joe Biden in a Monday meeting. Additionally, he will deliver a message from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who specifically requested its relay.
"I also extend my full support to the Indonesian Foreign Minister, chosen by OIC leaders to play a crucial role in seeking peace for Palestine," President Jokowi concluded.
