Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto is set to issue a government regulation enforcing a minimum purchase price of Rp6,500 per kilogram for harvested unhusked rice (GKP) to protect farmers from underpricing by rice millers.
“I will issue the regulation. This is a national issue. Businesses must profit, but not at the expense of farmers,” he said at the Ministry of Agriculture on Monday (3/2/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Emphasizing food security as a matter of sovereignty, President Prabowo rejected an unchecked free-market approach, stressing that fair pricing ensures a win-win for farmers, businesses, and consumers.
He also warned that millers unwilling to comply should close their businesses, stating, “If they refuse, the government will take over.”
President Prabowo’s remarks came after reviewing progress on Indonesia’s food self-sufficiency program, where Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman reported a notable surge in rice production over the past three months.
