Inp.polri.go.id – Surabaya. A total of 813 cases of complaints have been received by the Press Council throughout 2023. The number is greater than those of 2022 which only reached 691 cases.
The Chairperson of the Press Council Ninik Rahayu revealed that according to her party analysis, most of the cases are violations in the digital spaces.
“With the percentage of 97%, most of it came from the local media. Meanwhile, types of violations are hoax news (10 percent); use of sexually provocative issues (10 percent); untested information (20 percent); unverified information (40 percent) and using unreliable sources (20 percent)," reveals Ninik in the 2024 Public Relations Working Meeting on Tuesday (4/23/24).
Moreover, the Press Council also states that the Indonesian press freedom is still considered safe with a score of 71.57 of 100. The score was reflected in the 2023 National Press Freedom Index Survey.
However, Ninik remarks that the score was declined from the 2022 who are able to score 77.88.
