inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Bima Arya, said that the proposal of the Indonesian National Police (INP) under the Ministry of Home Affairs must be studied first. In addition, it must also go through a process in the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR).

"Even if there are changes, there will definitely be a political process first in the DPR. And of course this proposal must be studied first," he said on Monday (12/3/2024).

In his statement, he said that the current Law still places the Police directly under the President. According to him, every plan for change must of course be considered.

Moreover, the discourse of the proposal to place INP under the Ministry of Home Affairs will certainly have an impact on state finances. Likewise in terms of coordination between state institutions.

Previously, the Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, admitted to objecting to the proposal that the Police be under his ministry. Tito firmly admitted that he strongly objected and said the current position of the Police, which is directly under the President, is the result of reform.

Based on the context of reform, it was decided that the INP would be separated from the military and the INP would become an independent and professional institution.

"In addition, INP also focuses on law enforcement, public order, and community protection," he said.
