inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Public Policy Observer, Trubus Rahardiansah, criticized the proposal for the Indonesian National Police (INP) to be under the Ministry of Home Affairs. He assessed that if this happens, it has the potential to cause overlapping policies and complicated bureaucracy.
"INP has different main tasks and functions from the Ministry of Home Affairs. INP also already have carried out their duties quite well, considering the independent and professional origins of INP," he said on Monday (12/2/2024).
He said that if INP is under the Ministry of Home Affairs, according to him, the synergy between the two institutions could actually be disrupted. "It would even create new problems," he said.
According to him, this proposal is more influenced by political interests alone. "This proposal is more colored by political interests alone," he said.
He also explained that there are fundamental differences between the duties of INP and the Indonesian National Military (TNI). "The priority of INP is public order, not maintaining state sovereignty like the TNI," he said.
Trubus also noted new challenges faced by the Police in dealing with crime. "Crimes are now increasingly diverse, including cyber crime and online gambling," he said.
He further said that the police must remain independent to handle this new challenge. "The task of the police is getting harder with increasingly diverse crimes, and I am calling for the importance of increasing professionalism in facing these challenges," he concluded.
