inp.polri.go.id - Central Sulawesi. A protest that took place in front of the Central Sulawesi Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) office on Monday (8/25/2025) ended in chaos. Initially, the demonstration proceeded peacefully, but the situation turned anarchic when a number of demonstrators damaged the DPRD building's security fence.
Responding to the escalation, the police officers on duty immediately took firm and measured action by deploying water spray using a tactical water cannon vehicle to disperse the crowd.
The Palu Sub-regional City Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Deny Abrahams, emphasized that this step was taken to maintain order and maintain a conducive public order and security situation.
"We have repeatedly appealed to the demonstrators to be orderly and not to commit any acts of destruction. However, due to attempts to damage the DPRD building's fence, we were forced to take firm steps to disperse them with water cannon spray. This action is in accordance with security procedures to avoid casualties," said Deny Abrahams.
Deny also added that his party still respects freedom of expression, but must comply with the law.
"We support the peaceful delivery of aspirations, with student representatives entering the building for direct dialogue with council members and Assistant 3 of the Palu City Government, but the demonstrators did not want only representatives to enter but demanded that all demonstrators enter the Central Sulawesi provincial DPR building, so the demonstrators forced their way in and damaged the DPR building fence and public facilities, that is no longer democracy, but a violation of the law," he stressed.
Before the forced dispersal, the police repeatedly appealed to the masses to leave the location because the demonstration permit was only until 17.00 pm. However, until 18.00 pm, the masses still persisted, so the joint apparatus finally took action to disperse them by pushing them while spraying water from a water cannon.
