inp.polri.go.id – The smuggling of the illegal Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) to Malaysia was thwarted by the the Riau Islands Water and Air Police Unit. They intent to cross the waters of Pulau Kasu to Malaysia.
the Head of Law Enforcement Sub-Directorate, AKBP Sudarsono said that eight suspects related to the human trafficking crime were arrested by police officers.
"The suspects have the initials of H, A, Y, N, R, RM, MT and P,” said AKBP Sudarsono.
According to the Intermediate Officer of the Riau Islands Regional Police, all of the suspects are from Riau Islands, and they were about to sent dozens of the victims on Thursday (28/8) night using a speedboat.
"Two suspects are still in pursuit," said AKBP Sudarsono
The eight suspects demanded payment from every illegal PMI to be smuggled into Malaysia.
For their actions, the suspects will be charged with Articles 4, 7 and 8 of Law no. 21/2007 concerning TIP, and Article 81 of Law no. 18/2007 on the protection of Indonesian migrant workers, with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of around Rp5 billion.
