Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. The Riau Islands Regional Police have initiated a probe into the dissemination of hoax claiming that Ustadz Abdul Somad was arrested for aiding residents of Rempang Island during the unrest on September 7 and 11, 2023.
"The Cyber Crime Sub-Directorate of the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate is seeking out the responsible individual, with the full backing of the Indonesian National Police (INP) multimedia team," said Police Senior Superintendent Zahwani Pandra Arsyad, the Head of Public Relations of Riau Islands Regional Police, on Tuesday (19/9/23).
He pointed out that the hoax about Ustadz Abdul Somad had gained significant traction in the media, urging those involved in its dissemination to take responsibility for their actions.
The spokesperson clarified that it was a colleague of Ustadz Abdul Somad , identified by Burhan, who had been summoned to address the issue of providing food aid during the recent unrest .
"He fully cooperated with our inquiries," he said as reported by antaranews.com.
In an effort to stem the spread of the hoax, he urged the wider community to abstain from its propagation. He cautioned that legal measures would be pursued if such actions persisted.
"I urge everyone who has received this hoax to refrain from perpetuating it. As the situation on Rempang Island is gradually stabilizing, let us avoid any news that could potentially reignite tensions," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Director of Special Crimes Investigation Police Senior Superintendent Nasriadi confirmed that investigations into the case are ongoing. "We are currently in the investigative process," he stated. (ar/inp/pr/nm)
