Rokan Hilir Police Detain Woman for Poisoning Step Child

Inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. The Pujud Police Office in Rokan Hilir regency, Riau, detained a 36-year-old woman for allegedly poisoning her 11-year-old step child with a drink laced with rat poison.

Rokan Hilir Police Chief Superintendent Andrian Pramudianto, explained on Thursday (9/5/2024) that the boy, B, experienced seizures after consuming Golda Coffee provided by his mother, identified as R from Tanjung Medan. 

During the incident on Sunday, the victim's father was not at home, leaving the child alone with his stepmother.

"The victim's uncle was informed that the boy had seizures after drinking Golda Coffee given by the stepmother," said Chief Andrian.

The uncle rushed the boy to Ibunda Bagan Batu Hospital for treatment, where he fortunately survived. However, the uncle reported the incident to the Pujud Police for further investigation.

Upon interrogation, R confessed to adding two packets of Timex rat poison to the drink she gave her step child.

R faces charges under Article 44 of Law No. 23 of 2004 on the elimination of domestic violence, in conjunction with Article 76C of Law No. 35 of 2014 on amendments to Law No. 23 of 2002 on child protection, and Article 338 in conjunction with Article 53 of the Criminal Code.
