Inp.polri.go.id - Palembang. South Sumatra Regional Police Chief Inspector General Albertus Rachmad Wibowo has instructed Superintendent Imam Zamroni, the Ogan Komering Ulu Sub-regional Police Chief and his subordinates to directly assist the people suffering from the flood disaster in the regency.

The South Sumatra Police has also  dispatched aid  to the needy in the flood-affected areas of Ogan Komering Ulu on Thursday (9/5/2024), according to Senior Superintendent Sunarto, the South Sumatra Police Head of Public Relations..

The aid included 2 tons of rice, 2 tons of cooking oil, 2 tons of granulated sugar, 36 boxes of coffee, 50 boxes of tea, and 150 boxes of supplementary food.

Chief Rachmad emphasized the importance of quick police response in providing protection and assistance, including helping the difficulties of the affected residents in the flood disaster, he said.

"It demonstrates the state's presence among the people, especially during natural disasters like the current flood in the Ogan Komering Ulu regency. The police must be there to assist the community facing difficulties," Chief Sunarto said.

Heavy rain in the Ogan Komering Ulu Regency for several days had caused the river water level to rise continuously, overflow, and inundate several areas. Two districts with 16 villages were affected by the flood.

More than 1,500 houses were submerged, causing the suspension of a suspension bridge in Karang Agung, and flooding at least 10 hectares of plantation and agricultural land.
