The Drug Criminal Investigation Directorate of Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police has successfully uncovered provincial and international drug flow after arresting five drug couriers from June to August. The five arrested drug couriers are PR (23), SI (34), ZG (28), TR (25), and AJ (20).
Through the drug uncovering operation, police have secured 9.6 kilograms of meth and 2.64 grams of weed.
The Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Dwi Irianto says that PR, SI, TR, and AJ act as inter-provincial courier tasked with delivering the methamphetamine to the Kendari area. Meanwhile, ZG allegedly acts as an inter-country courier in an international network involving the route from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Indonesia and to Kendari.
“The total loss due to this drug flow reached 8,285,466,720 IDR. Assuming one gram of meth can be consumed by 10 people, then this operation has saved around 690,500 from the harm of drugs,” said Dwi on Thursday (8/29/2024).
Meanwhile, the Drug Criminal Director of Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Ardiyanto Tedjo Baskoro says that his party is committed to continue eradicating drug flow in the province.
“We will not stop here, we will continue to develop this case and uncover other drug networks,” says Ardiyanto.
For their crimes, they will be charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) and Article 112 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics. They are threatened with life imprisonment or a minimum prison sentence of 5 years and a maximum of 20 years, as well as a fine of at least IDR 800 million and a maximum of IDR 8 billion.
