Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Directorate General of Taxes plans to assign e-commerce platforms or marketplaces to collect income tax of PPh Article 22 from online merchants, aiming to improve tax compliance and simplify procedures.

“This is not a new tax, but a shift in collection mechanism,” said Tax Directorate General’ spokesperson Rosmauli on Thursday (26/6/2025), explaining that the tax would apply only to sellers with annual turnover above Rp 500 million (approx. USD 30,000).

Currently, online sellers pay income tax independently. The new policy will make platforms responsible for withholding and remitting taxes directly from merchant transactions.

The regulation is under finalization and involves input from stakeholders, including digital commerce firms and ministries.
