Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Military (TNI) will conduct an internal review of firearm ownership and use after a soldier discharged his weapon inside a state-owned bank in Gowa, South Sulawesi.
The incident nearly injured an intelligence officer from the local military district command.
“We will re-evaluate technical procedures on firearm ownership and usage,” TNI spokesperson Major General. Freddy Ardianzah told antaranews.com on Friday (26/9/2025). “Weapons must only be used under strict responsibility and in accordance with regulations.”
The soldier reportedly entered the bank with a concealed assault rifle before discharging a round into a wall. Security officers and military intelligence subdued him, preventing casualties. He has since been handed over to his division for investigation by military police.
Chief Freddy added that the TNI would tighten psychological monitoring of soldiers to prevent misuse of weapons and ensure that such incidents do not recur.
