Victims of Alcohol Poisoning at Bukittinggi Penitentiary Increased to Four People

inp.polri.go.id - Bukittinggi. The number of victims who died from alcohol poisoning at the Class IIA Bukittinggi Penitentiary, West Sumatra has increased to four people.

"The last patient who was treated in the ICU was declared dead on Tuesday (5/6/2025) early this morning at 03.01 WIB," said Dr. Achmad Mochtar Bukittinggi Hospital President Director, Busril, Tuesday (5/6/2025).

According to Busril, the body of the patient with the initials D has been handed over to the family to be buried in his home village in Baso District, Agam Regency.

Previously, 23 inmates were treated at two hospitals in Bukittinggi since Wednesday (4/30/2025).

Four people had died from poisoning while 19 others were declared cured and returned to the prison.

Head of the Bukittinggi Sub-regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Police Senior Inspector Idris Bakara, said that dozens of witnesses had been questioned.

"There were 24 witnesses who were questioned, three of whom were prison wardens, and their status has not yet been declared a suspect," said Idris.
