West Papua Police Chief Urges Calm After Navy and Brimob Dispute

Inp.polri.go.id - Sorong. West Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Polisi Johnny Eddizon Isir has urged his subordinates in Sorong City, Southwest Papua Province, to refrain from actions following clashes between Mobile Brigade members and Navy soldiers from Sorong Naval Base.

"The situation in Sorong is resolved. No need for more actions," he asserted on Monday (15/4/2024), as reported by antaranews.com. 

Chief Isir stressed a thorough investigation into the clashes' causes, promising strict sanctions for any wrongdoers.

He confirmed Sorong's restored security post-clashes on 14 April 2024, assuring normalcy. He also pledged to resolve the military-police conflict amicably through thorough investigations, aiming for peace.

Clashes occurred between Navy soldiers and Mobile Brigade members at Sorong Port, resulting in five injuries. Damages included the Sorong Seaport Terminal, KP3 Laut Police Post, and two police posts of Sorong..
