Navy and Mobile Brigade Dispute Ends Peacefully: Navy Chief of Staff

Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali, announced on Sunday (14/4/2024) the peaceful resolution of the altercation between Indonesian Navy and West Papua Regional Police's Mobile Brigade at Sorong port in southwest Papua. 

He stressed the importance of Jalasena soldiers upholding honor and collaborating with all sectors of society, irrespective of location, according to antaranews.com.

Sorong Naval Base Commander Rear Admiral Hersan expressed regret over the incident, highlighting its impact on the established synergy between the Indonesian Military (TNI) and Indonesian National Police (INP). 

He urged measures to prevent such occurrences in the future to maintain unity. 

Commander Hersan visited injured victims at Dr. Oetojo Naval Hospital in Sorong. 

At present, the military and the police leadership continued to mediate in Sorong, with further investigations underway. 

The clash, which left five injured, erupted at the Pelindo IV office entrance in Sorong, Southwest Papua province, at 9.30 am on Sunday, triggered by a reprimand from Sorong Navy soldiers to Mobile Brigade personnel.
