The United Mission in South Sudan (UMISS) honored f 33 Indonesian National Police (INP) officers serving as individual police officers (IPO) for their outstanding contributions to peacekeeping efforts in South Sudan.  The Head of the International Relations Division at the INP, Inspector General. Krishna Murti, said on early Thursday (1/2/2024) that the awards were presented by UNMISS UNPOL Police Commissioner Christine Fossen in Juba, South Sudan. During the ceremony, she acknowledged the tangible contributions and the presence of the INP delegation led by General Krisna in UNMISS. "The achievements of Indonesian UNPOLs for UNMISS have been crucial, both administratively and in capacity development, especially in the operational realm, particularly in supporting the elections planned by the government of South Sudan," she said. Among the notable achievements of Indonesian IPO were acting as testers for potential peacekeepers from contributing countries, assisting in the evacuation of casualties during conflicts between tribes in Malakal on 28 May 2023, providing training and workshops to local police, confiscating hundreds of firearms and weapons from civilians, and leading cordon and search operations targeting hundreds of liters of local drink Marisa marijuana, as pioneers of the "Peace Begins with Me" initiative. Their accomplishments extended to peace campaign programs between conflicting tribes, building bore wells to meet the water needs of the local community, and contributing sports equipment to the local population. Chief Krishna expressed gratitude to the mission authorities for honoring the Indonesian police personnel. He emphasized that the recognition strengthened Indonesia's commitment to actively contribute to global peacekeeping missions. "Indonesia's commitment to contributing to UN Peacekeeping Missions is very serious, and we will continue to prepare personnel according to the competencies required for the missions," he said.
