Inp.polri.go.id - Kupang.  The Mount Ile Lewotolok Volcano Observation Post in Ile Ape district, Lembata regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), reported 348 instances of tremors throughout Wednesday.

"There were 348 f tremors at the summit of Mount Lewotolok," said Fajaruddin M. Balido, the observer of Mount Ile Lewotolok from Lembata, on Thursday morning (2/5/2024).

Other seismic activities also occurred, including shallow volcanic, deep volcanic tremors and distant tectonic tremor, he said as reported by antaranews.com.

Fajar added that visually, the mountain was clear with a county category ranging from 0 to I. Meanwhile, weak-pressure crater smoke was observed to be thin, moderate, thick, and reaching heights of 25-400 meters above the crater's peak.

Mount Ile Lewotok’s status remained at level III or alert. Based on the weekly report from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), volcanic activity at the mountain remained quite high.

Therefore, it recommended that local residents of Lamatokan and Jontona Villages to be cautious of the potential threat of rockfall or lava avalanches and pyroclastic flows from the eastern part of the summit or crater of the mountain.

It also advised local residents of Jontona and Todanara Villages not to enter the southern and southeastern sectoral areas up to three kilometers from the center of the mountain's activity.
