inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported a decrease in rainfall intensity in the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) area, four days after the weather modification operation (OMC) was carried out to reduce the potential for flooding in the region.
"Since the four days of OMC, Jabodetabek OMC Joint Task Force has recorded a significant decrease in rainfall intensity of between 30 and 60 percent in Jakarta, West Java, and Banten. In fact, for the past two days, Jakarta has been hot without rain," explained Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, on Friday (7/11/2025).
This phenomenon occurred after the weather modification operation carried out by BNPB entered its fourth day on Thursday (7/10). During this period, BNPB has scattered 16 tons of seeding material into the sky through 18 sorties, including 12.4 tons of sodium chloride (NaCl) and 3.6 tons of calcium oxide (CaO).
Abdul explained that the weather modification operation was a government effort to address the extreme weather emergency during the wet dry season that hit West Java and Jakarta.
The operation, carried out by BNPB, with support from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and the Indonesian Air Force, was carried out from July 7-11, 2025, as an emergency response following flooding in several locations.
He ensured that, along with the reduction in rainfall intensity, flood mitigation efforts in downstream areas, such as pumping and draining, as well as strengthening embankments in areas still wet from the flooding, could be optimized, so that people could quickly return to normal activities.
