inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Riau Regional Police have once again demonstrated their firm commitment to eradicating forestry and environmental crimes.
From January to July 2025, 46 suspects were successfully arrested by the Riau Regional Police's Security and Law Enforcement Task Force (Satgas PPH).
The Riau Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Herry Heryawan, said that the disclosure of this case was the result of synergy between the Riau Regional Police's PPH Task Force, the military, the Riau Provincial Government, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA), and a number of other stakeholders.
There are two main cases that have been successfully uncovered, namely the crime of forest and land burning and forest encroachment or illegal logging.
In detail, Inspector General Herry explained that during this period his party had handled 17 police reports (LP), consisting of four LPs that had been transferred to the Public Prosecutor (JPU) and 13 other LPs were still in the investigation process at the police.
"The total number of suspects that we have secured is 22 people, with the area of land burned reaching 66 hectares," said Chief Herry in a press conference, Tuesday (7/8/2025).
For their actions, the suspects were charged with Article 108 in conjunction with Article 69 paragraph (1) letter h of Law Number 32 of 2009 concerning Environmental Protection and Management. The maximum penalty is 10 years in prison and a fine of up to IDR 15 billion.
