Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno has urged domestic tourists not to travel to Singapore during the Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 holidays to prevent the spread of the growing COVID-19 in the country. "I urge Indonesian tourists to only explore destinations within Indonesia; there is a significant increase in Singapore," he said on Monday (11/12/2023). According to Minister Sandiaga, there are many attractive domestic destinations compared to Singapore, antaranews.com reported. "Besides, it's more expensive (in Singapore), so it's better to prioritise destinations around us to make sure we don't get infected with COVID-19. We prioritise our health first," he added. Minister Sandiaga said that the expectation of an increase in COVID-19 cases was discussed at the ministerial meeting. He assured that the increase in cases in Indonesia is still under control. However, Sandiaga urged the public to remain cautious and always wear masks when indoors. "We believe that we can overcome COVID-19 with the handling we are already used to, so that the target of 107 million movements of domestic tourists or holiday travellers during Christmas and New Year must be served safely, comfortably and pleasantly," he said. The Ministry of Transportation has announced that there are no regulations governing the travel or movement of the public during the Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 holidays, even though COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Indonesia. Regarding travel conditions or requirements related to COVID-19, the Ministry of Transportation follows the guidelines of relevant ministries/agencies such as the Ministry of Health and the COVID-19 Handling Task Force.
