Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued a warning for several major cities in Indonesia, forecasting light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms on Sunday (27/10/2024).

Residents are advised to stay alert for potential impacts, according to antaranews.com.

BMKG meteorologist Ida Pramuwardani reported that light rain, with less than 2.5 mm per hour, is expected in cities like Bandung, Ternate, Sorong, and Nabire. Heavier rainfall, exceeding 4.0 mm per hour, is anticipated in Jayapura and Jayawijaya.

Thunderstorms are also forecasted for Tanjung Selor and Bengkulu, with temperatures ranging between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, other cities, including Aceh, Padang, and Jakarta, will experience overcast conditions throughout the day.

Ida emphasized the need for vigilance, “Residents should be cautious and prepared for sudden weather changes, particularly in areas prone to flooding.”

A convergence zone from South Sumatra to Bone Bay and Central Sulawesi could increase rainfall in those regions. Tidal flooding, locally known as banjir rob, is also expected along the northern coast of Central Java today.
