Commissioner General Mohammed Rycko Amelza Daniel, Head of National Counter Terrorism Agency (BNPT), emphasized the significance of collaboration between the government and society in preventing acts of terrorism, on Thursday (25/1/2024). He acknowledged the persistent trend of radicalization on internet networks, particularly impacting the younger generation. Emphasizing the need for vigilance, he cautioned that neglecting to protect children from intolerance might result in harmful consequences, societal erosion, and potential escalation during the 2024 elections. Recognizing the potential for societal polarization during elections, he highlighted the crucial roles of all parties in safeguarding peace, unity, and resisting factors that could lead to division and destruction. "All parties are urged to join efforts in preventing division during the democratic celebration. The BNPT is committed to ensuring a peaceful and secure atmosphere throughout the 2024 elections," he said. He highlighted the persuasive use of religious justifications for intolerant teachings and radicalism, emphasizing the utilization of religious attire to legitimize actions and calling for increased awareness.
