inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Head of Education Research of National Innovation and Research Body (BRIN) Trina Fizzanty says that bullying in school must be getting serious attention to realize a 2045 Indonesia Golden Generation.
“This bullying case is not something trivial. This is a problem for our children the generation that will be the 2045 Indonesia Golden Generation,” says Trina.
Therefore, Trina adds, it is important for school to create an environment and space that is comfortable and safe for the children so they can be cheerful when learning.
She explained that bullying is an aggressive behavior that is usually done repeatedly by the perpetrator to the victim. Bullying, both psychological and physical, arises because of unequal social relations.
Trina said that children who become bullies could be driven by family factors where they receive the same treatment in their family. The driving factor is also possible from the school environment where children view their friends as inferior to them.
To prevent children from becoming bullies, Trina emphasized the importance of inclusive education so that children understand the existence of social, economic, and physical diversity as part of the world that must be faced. In addition, character education needs to be deeply internalized so that students can apply the values of Pancasila in their daily lives.
"We need to find out what the cause or root of the problem is (which does not solely blame the child). So that later when handling it, we do not target something that then causes new problems or maybe does not even solve the problem," she explained.
For bullies with higher relations than the victim, such as teachers and lecturers, he emphasized the importance of building awareness of the code of professional ethics. In addition, there needs to be punishment or sanctions that provide a deterrent effect on adult perpetrators.
He also reminded that victims of bullying will experience psychological impacts that should not be underestimated, ranging from feelings of inferiority to feeling useless. This is certainly very dangerous.
Bullying is one of the forms of violence that has been explained in the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Permendikbudristek) Number 46 of 2023. Regarding prevention and handling, the regulation has also mandated the formation of a Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence (TPPK) in the educational unit environment.
