Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said a proposed exchange of positions between a deputy finance minister and a Bank Indonesia (BI) deputy governor would not affect the central bank’s independence.
“The exchange is balanced and has nothing to do with BI’s independence,” he told reporters at the House of Representatives (DPR) complex on Monday (19/1/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
His statement responded to reports that Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Djiwandono, who is also the nephew of President Prabowo Subianto, may be appointed BI Deputy Governor, while current BI Deputy Governor Juda Agung could move to the Finance Ministry.
Minister Purbaya stressed that BI remains autonomous as long as there is no government intervention in monetary policy, saying that fiscal and monetary authorities continue to operate independently while coordinating through the Financial System Stability Committee to safeguard economic stability.
Separately, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the government has sent a presidential letter to the House of Representatives to initiate the fit-and-proper test process for BI deputy governor candidates, following Juda’s resignation.
