Inp.polri.go.id - North Lombok. Minister of Culture Fadli Zon has cautioned against the excessive adoption of foreign cultures, warning that it could erode local traditions and values such as communal cooperation, politeness, and customary practices.

“We may appreciate foreign cultures, but it’s crucial to value our own. Let’s not lose ourselves to others’ cultures,” he said during the inauguration of the Genggelang Village Museum in North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Monday (6/1/2025).

The minister emphasized that unchecked foreign cultural dominance fosters consumerism and individualism, which conflict with local norms. It could also exacerbate social inequality by promoting trends in fashion and technology.

The Ministry of Culture plans to expand Indonesia’s museum network from the current 500 to thousands within five years to foster cultural appreciation and historical awareness.

“We must embrace Indonesian culture. If we don’t value it, who will?” Minister Fadli asked, as quoted by antaranews.com.

He highlighted President Prabowo Subianto’s establishment of the Ministry of Culture as a significant step toward preserving national identity.

Local museum Head Ahmad Nuralam added that museums serve not just as historical repositories but as cultural fortresses against external influences
