Inp.polri.go.id - Wamena. Jayawijaya Sub-regional Police have arrested four suspects in the murder of a civilian, identified as Punika Wenda, a 40-year-old resident of Kampung Minimo, Maima District, Papua Mountains.
The suspects, identified as MI (20), AW (31), RW (18), and MH (19), were arrested following the incident that triggered inter-clan conflict in the area.
“These four men are strongly suspected of murdering Punika Wenda near the airport on 20 July 2025,” said Jayawijaya Police Chief Superintendent Anak Agung Made Satriya Bimantara on Monday (28/7/2025). “We call on the victim’s family and community to refrain from retaliation and allow the legal process to proceed.”
The Jayawijaya Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief Assistant Senior Inspector Sugarda AB Trenggoro credited community cooperation, including support from the district and village heads, for helping prevent broader tribal violence and facilitating the arrests.
A fifth suspect, identified SH, is yet to be arrested due to his injury.
