Inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh. East Aceh Sub-regional Police have named four Myanmar nationals as suspects in the smuggling of 76 Rohingya people who landed on Leuge Beach, Peureulak District in Aceh.
According to East Aceh Police Head of Criminal Investigation Unit First Inspector Adi Wahyu Nurhidayat, the suspects— identified as AB (51), MU (48), MH (46), and NO (45)—played key roles in the operation.
Suspects AB and MU served as captains, steering the boat into Indonesian waters illegally, while suspect MH acted as the navigator and suspect NO handled the boat’s mechanics, as reported by antaranews.com.
Based on witness testimony from Rohingya migrants, police have charged them under Article 120 (1) of Law No. 6/2011 on Immigration, carrying a sentence of 5 to 15 years in prison.
Authorities are expanding their investigation to determine possible links to other Rohingya smuggling networks in Aceh.
Meanwhile, the 76 migrants have been relocated to a temporary shelter in Seuneubok Rawang, Peureulak Timur.
